Green Squad

Green Squad is a group that focuses on how we can improve and protect our environment. This also ties in with the We Take Charge campaign. Students  become creative by using technology or using paper to convince students in their community to respect the Earth and to be litter-less.

WE TAKE CHARGE campaign

We have this blog to persuade you to environmentally friendly choices as well as document our journey.
Although me, Justin Abigail are all different, we all have one desire, one interest, on goal and that is to make our world a better place and to stop global warming. We need all the help we can get and that means you have to join us.
You can help by instead of buying the small packaged things for convenience buy one big package and separate it into reusable containers.  Its hard to think how much one person could help, believe me I've thought the same.  Every big number is made with little ones.

The Green Squad made a flag to represent every student's pledge to be environmentally friendly.

We Scare Hunger 2015

For the month of October, the students of St.Gabriel school donated food for the Ottawa Food Cupboard. This also supported the campaign "We Scare Hunger". The grade 6's took action by putting up posters and encouraging students to bring in food to help others. They helped load the food donated into vehicles that would take it to the Ottawa Food Cupboard. They still encourage students to bring food even though the event is over.

"We Are Rafiki"

The opportunity for the Grade 6 class to become in the "Early Entrepreneurs" project came in early spring by a representative from the company.  In this project, students went through modules related to business entrepreneurship. The modules introduced how to develop a business based on 4 key aspects for success: Marketing, Product Design, Operations and Finance. The students also worked through a "free the children" module which focused on how we can end poverty in 3rd world countries.  "Early Entrepreneurs" provided us with a micro-loan of $100 to get started.  The students decided that they wanted to invest their money in the "We Are Rafiki" initiative, to support our school cause and Me to We. They quickly sold a case and used that money to buy another one, then two, etc.  After dividing up into Marketing, Product/Web Design, Operations and Finance teams, they set to work developing our cause.  All groups worked extremely well together and advertised the project perfectly.  They capitalized on the fact that Education Week was occurring and Mother's Day was approaching the following Sunday.  At the end of the project, the class sold over 34 cases of "Rafiki" chains...that's over 340 chains sold and over $3400 in product!

Cupcakes For Change

Serena and Julia from Grade 6 so far raised $320 by selling cupcakes.
During the month of February, Julia and Serena baked cupcakes with assistance and supervision by their parents.

Julia and Serena's first bake sale was at Julia's church and sold all of the cupcakes and some people added a donation, in the end we made $115. Next they went to Serena's church and sold baked goods and collected $205.

Our goal is to collect $500 by April 1st.
